Restricted API access for tenants
-
From the perspective of tenants, there is no API available to receive scripted insights into their running VMs. Is it possible to provide a heavily restricted API (just like the service provider API) with the endpoint get /virtual-machine for tenants? Filtering on a specific VDC is possible, that can be a way to restrict it per tenant. The only metric missing from /virtual-machine is the IP address of the VM.
This would be a great addition for a customer use case we have.

To add to this use case: We are currently working on building a Terraform provider for our tenants, and having native, restricted API access is exactly what we need. Right now, we are facing quite a few challenges trying to automate all the VM and infrastructure settings due to the current API limitations.

Absolutely, 100% agree with you! Which is why we’re performing a ground-up rewrite of our authentication and authorisation system which will deliver excellent granularity and control over per-tier API endpoints. The current target is this year :)
This would be great.
I was too busy integrating things into billing and such that I failed to notice Tenant API was missing. My assumption was that it is there until I had to actually use it ;)

Just please do not break existing one for admins (i.e. no API regression, rather /v2 introduction possibly). We have a lot of billing and outside-of-mp-lane automation depending on this.
Thanks.

Hi @Stell, are you able to confirm the restricted API access for Tenants is targeted to some exact time of this year (i.e. it will be implemented in October)?
We have one potentially big new customer, who is very happy with everything we offer to him with our cloud services, but the only thing we don’t pass in his mandatory requests is API access. If we could tell him the API is on the way for example in 4Q2026, we have a chance to success in the deal.
Thanks in advance for reply.

Hey there @ataricze
We’re anticipating Q4CY26 for this capability. Happy to arrange a roadmap discussion if you want to send me a DM here or an email?
Many thanks
